HistoryBIO-SEA by BIO-UV, the water treatment specialist for 15 years!
BIO-SEA is a subsidiary of the BIO-UV Group. BIO-UV, an innovative industrial SME, leading French manufacturer of ultraviolet light water treatment equipment, was created in May 2000. Made up of 49 employees at the present time in France, plus its subsidiary with 20 people in the USA (Delta UV in California), the BIO-UV Group designs, manufactures and markets systems and concepts of disinfection by ultraviolet light (UV-C) adapted to a large number of applications.
With a consolidated turnover of more than 12 million euros in 2015, BIO-UV markets its systems throughout the world. More than 75% of the group's sales are made in export markets.
The directors' experience in the medical, water treatment and engineering equipment fields and the use of the best and most recent UV-C transmission technologies enables BIO-UV to supply the most effective and most innovative water treatment processes, meeting the requirements of its customers.
Delta UV operates in North American markets and the rest of the export and French business is managed from the French head office.
On its production sites in Lunel (France) and Los Angeles (USA), the BIO-UV Group designs, manufactures and markets ultraviolet (UV-C) disinfection systems and concepts adapted to a large number of applications, such as:
- Ballast Water Treatment BIO-SEA®,
- Automatic water treatment with or without chlorine for private swimming pools and spas,
- Disinfection and/or dechloramination in collective swimming pools and spas,
- Purification of fresh or salt water in aquariums,
- Domestic and urban water purification,
- Production of drinking water in isolated areas using photovoltaic energy,
- Treatment of waste water which is reused or not as the case may be,
- Disinfection of water from industrial processes and ultra-pure water,
- Treatment of legionella,
- And other applications.
The sun emits invisible light: ultraviolet light. This natural phenomenon is reproduced inside the reactors in the BIO-UV Group’s product ranges using powerful lamps, the result of leading-edge technology, that emit UV-C rays.
At 254 nanometers, the optimum wavelength for destroying micro-organisms (viruses, bacteria, algae, yeasts, mould...including Legionella and Cryptosporidium), UV-C rays penetrate the heart of DNA and disturb the metabolism of cells until they are totally destroyed. All germs are thus desactivated and cannot reproduce.
That is why BIO-UV has designed ranges of UV reactors suitable for commercial pools and spas in order to reduce or eradicate these side effects.
THE EFFECTIVE DOSE
The reactors in the BIO-UV ranges are dimensioned according to the pump flow rate, as it is the combination of the contact time in the reactor and the power of the lamp(s) that will ensure that the necessary dose (expressed in millijoules per square centimeter or mJ/cm2) sufficient to kill 99.9% of the micro-organisms (bacteria, viruses, algae in suspension,…) is received.
The use of type C ultraviolet rays as a means of sanitisation has been known for more than a century. They have been used in various applications such as for drinking water purification, aquaculture, fish farming, as well as in hospitals and the pharmaceutical industry. After filtration, water circulates through the UV sanitiser for complete disinfection - bacteria, viruses and algae are completely deactivated without side effects or dangerous by-products. This process results in pure and clear water.
Your need for chemical products is reduced. You will still need to maintain a small residual of chemicals in your pool in order to destroy any micro-organisms that do not find their way into the UV sanitiser.
